...While most people can hold their breath for about 30 seconds, Aleix Segura Vendrell set the Guinness World Record by holding his breath underwater for an astonishing 24 minutes and 3 seconds while floating in a pool in Barcelona. That's 54 seconds longer than the world's previous best time (which Segura also set). The record was set on February 28th, 2016 in Barcelona in an event broadcast on live TV. Vendrell achieved the record with the help of what is known as an oxygen-assist. He breathed pure oxygen for a period of time before beginning his extended float.
